Winter Session in Chimbote
2 to 8 Week Program
December, January, and February
It might be winter in the US, but it’s SUMMER in Chimbote! If you’re looking for a place off the beaten path, this Peru 109 location is for you. Because Chimbote is relatively “untouched” by tourism, you’ll be immersed in a way that other locations cannot match!
You’ll have the chance to create and lead summer programs for the students of Mi Segundo Hogar, a small school in the neighborhood called Miraflores Bajo. Mi Segundo Hogar is proud to offer low-cost education for neighborhood families and about 200 children ages 3 through 16.
On the weekdays, you’ll work with the children, staff, and families of Mi Segundo Hogar through one or all of the site community projects: recreational camp, summer studies, and facility improvements.
On the weekends, you’ll have time to hike Chimbote’s Cerro de la Paz that overlooks the harbor, visit the temple ruins of Sechin, or explore the “Isla Blanca” just minutes from the Chimbote shore. Or, you may decide to spend a day sandboarding on the surrounding impressive dunes, or relaxing at one of the nearby beaches.

COST INCLUDES:
· Airport pick-up and drop-off by Peru 109 staff
· Round trip bus Lima-Chimbote
· All lodging (including hotel stay in Lima and host family stay in Chimbote)
· Three meals a day, seven days a week for the duration of your stay
· Three hours a week of Spanish classes with local instructor (max. 2 students per group)
· All transportation that is part of group itinerary
· bilingual staff in your neighborhood, on call 24 hours a day
