Trujillo
Known as the City of Eternal Spring, Trujillo is the country's third largest city, and it is located in the northwest part of the country. It is the capital of the department La Libertad.
Very near the city you will find numerous archaeological monuments of the Mochica and Chimu cultures, including the Chan Chan ruins. Chan Chan is the capital of the Kingdom of Chimor, also known as the Chimu Empire, ane represents America's largest prehispanic mud-brick settlement. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Only 15 minutes from the city, Huanchaco, is a frequent stop for visitor to Trujillo. Huanchaco is the perfect place to enjoy the sights of the Pacific coast, take a ride in the totora reed boats "Caballitos de Totora" (small rafts made out of straw of the region), take a surfing lesson, and lunch on fresh seafood.
Trujillo is also known as the "Cultural Capital of Peru", famed by the traditional celebrations of the Marinera's National Contest (Peruvian dance contest), the International Festival of Spring, Competition of "Caballos de Paso" (Peruvian "Paso" horses), and the Biannual Festival of Contemporary Art and International Ballet.
